A Point from pastor

The Missions Conference is this week, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night.   This is always an enriching time!   Do make every effort to attend these sessions.   If you have children, this is a valuable component of their education.   Perhaps they understand the textbook definition of "missionary," but to really value the work, we must engage with our missionaries.  So, read and hear their stories.  It is an encouragement to hear what the Lord is doing in other countries.

Al McElheran will be sharing on his experiences.  He spent decades in Ecuador (so named because it sits on an imaginary line with a latitude of 00° 00' 00").  The last 15+ years, he has been doing missionary work in Honduras.   For a few years, Hondurans have been in the news as they've had caravans marching to the US border.  Al certainly has an inside perspective on this.  I'm also hopeful that Al will tell the story of the time he was handed dental tools and he started yanking teeth out (no prior dental experience).   Imagine being a dentist with that kind of on the job training!!!  Oh, the many hats that missionaries wear when they are in the field.

Wednesday night, we will begin at 6 with a meal (a bit of a Honduran flavor... I would say if you like Mexican, you will probably enjoy the meal).  At 7pm, Al will speak.  Bring the kids.

No Clubs, LIGHThouse or other Wednesday programs... adults, youth, kids should all attend the conference.  Join us!

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

- Matthew 28:19-20

And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.

- Mark 5:19-20

Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

- Matthew 9:38

the Lord's day

We spoke of Columbus - certainly a man of faith and worthy of some study.  Today is Columbus Day.  We also spoke of the importance of voting in this country.
You honored we pastors with an appreciation...  card, money, and a gift.  As pastors, we join together to thank you for being the church to us and honoring us.  We appreciate that we can minister alongside of you.
The message was from Matthew 13:44-46.  We read of the parables of the treasure in the field and the pearl of great price and discussed the actors, the acquisitions, and their activities.  The Kingdom of Heaven is worth it all; it is priceless.  In Christ, we have an eternal treasure that is beyond anything known to man.   Our inheritance is “imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you” (1 Pet. 1:4).   Are we willing to give up our righteousness, our sin, our pride in self to purchase this great treasure?

Be the Church

What did Jesus say were marks of His disciples?  Part 2.

Disciples sincerely love other believers (John 13:35). Love is a lifestyle of a disciple.  We love God, we love our neighbor and we love our brothers and sisters in Christ.   A disciple is also one who abides in Christ (John 15:5-8).   Just as the branches of the vine get nourishment because the remain connected to it, so do believers draw from Christ as our vine.  Disciples of Jesus seek to be full of the Holy Spirit (Acts 13:52).   Just as the vine gets nourished from Christ, we need his empowering of the Spirit to guide us.   Those who follow Jesus are obedient to His direction (Matt. 25:14-30).  When the Lord says “go,” we GO… we don’t say “no.”   Is it even possible to say the words “no Lord” (is He really Lord if we do?)???   Finally, disciples are concerned about their master’s mission (Matt. 28:16-20).  Final words are important and it was important for Jesus to insist that His followers make disciples.    Be a good disciple.  Be the church.

“The average lifespan of the world's greatest civilizations has been about two hundred years.  During that two-century span, each of these nations progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, and from dependence back into bondage.”

- David Jeremiah
