In one week, we celebrate Jesus' birthday.  Many of you will gather to unwrap presents.  Many share in special snacks, foods, or treats.   Some of you have special family traditions that take place on that day.    A few of you even take some time for special worship that day.

Hanging on a mirror at home is a picture of a rainbow with the words, "I will never again flood the earth with water but with fire."  Under the rainbow is a man and the label next to him reads "Jesus."  One of our girls made that picture a few years ago.  I find it interesting that in the middle of this Old Testament picture is Jesus.  I have to admit that I love it.    Because...  Jesus IS in the middle of the Old Testament.  Just as He was there at the beginning and will be at the end.  As you celebrate His birthday in whatever ways you do, place Him in the middle of it all.  Bring Him into it and make sure that He is the centerpiece.  It is the birthday of a King.

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth,

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah,

the Lord's day

We opened with the cantata as a choir of over 30 individuals shared the marvelous story of the incarnation and Savior's birth.  Wow.... just WOW!!!!   The music was stirring.   The presentation including the finale with the young gals dancing to our Lord was special.  Thank you Shawna and ensamble for the many hours of practice and preparation.

The message continued answering "Why the Incarnation?"   The third answer to "Why the incarnation?" is so the devil's works would be destroyed  (1 John 3:8).  We considered his intentions and methods but then looked at the answer Christ gives.    As Satan intends to oppose God, Jesus sought to please the Father and obey.  So should we.  As Satan intend to build his kingdom, Jesus came to set up His kingdom.  We are ambassadors from that kingdom to this world. . . let us continue to live as those belonging to Jesus' kingdom.   Satan also intends to ruin believers and hinder our faith.  Jesus, though, is the very author of our faith and the finisher.  Eyes on Jesus.  Eyes on Jesus.

Is there not a cause?    - 1 Samuel 17:29

David asked whether there was a cause worthy of fighting for.  Is
there not a cause in our life worthy of speaking up about or fighting for? Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my
fingers for battle (Ps. 144:1).  This verse implies that we are battle ready.  Not just the sin battle, but willing to speak out against the world’s ways.  Having a righteous anger is, at times, appropriate –
in the appropriate way.  Patience and calmness are a key. The Bible speaks much more about being “slow to anger” and removing anger. So, if we are offended, that anger may be pride.   It should never be name calling, seeking to hurt others, or vengeful.  Frustrated anger can often be sinful.  Careful!  There is plenty to be angry about but be angry righteously.  In your anger, “do not sin.”

“The view which I maintain is that every book, and chapter, and verse, and syllable of the Bible was originally given by inspiration of God.  I hold that not only the substance of the Bible, but its language, - not only the ideas of the Bible, but its words, - not only certain parts of the Bible, but every chapter of the book, - that all and each are of Divine authority.  I hold that Scripture not only contains the Word of God, but is the Word of God.”
