A Point from pastor

One of the songs Daryl Mosley performed last night is titled "He Saw It All."  Written by Daryl in 2005 and recorded by a gospel group (The Booth Brothers), the song is about someone in town conducting business on a day when Jesus caused a commotion.  This man stops another one running by and asks what's going on.  The man responds:

I was trying to catch the crippled man,
Did he run past this way?
He was rushing home to tell everyone
    what Jesus did today.
And the mute man was telling me
and the deaf girl, he's leaving to
    answer God's call.
It's hard to believe, but if you don't trust me
ask the blind man, he saw it all.
Ask the blind man, he saw it all.

I love the picture of the excitement of this confrontation with Jesus and even the confusion that it leaves us with.   A crippled man running?  A mute telling the story?   The deaf girl listening?   And, if you don't believe any of them, just ask the blind man... He saw it all.

As I was listening, I thought, nothing inside of that sounds right! The lyrics don't quite make sense because cripples don't run, deaf don't hear, mute don't speak, and blind people do not see.  But, yet, Jesus was not about creating confusion (although he sure did puzzle onlookers at time).  Jesus was about removing confusion. He was about fixing what was broken.  He was about removing the effects of sin because He came to conquer the curse of sin.

Sadly, the song seems odd because the world is odd.  Cripples should walk and run.  Mute people should be able to talk.  The deaf should hear.   And every blind person should  be able to see.   The reason they cannot is because this world is broken by the curse of sin.   Only the Lord Jesus Christ could change this (and He did!).  Lord - sovereign over all creation.   Jesus - born as a human "under the law" was able to redeem those under the law (Gal. 4:4-5).  Christ - He is the Messiah.  The Savior.  The perfect sacrifice who suffered and died to take our punishment and the weight of the curse  on Himself.

Weary sinner, run to Christ!   Listen and believe in His gospel!   Tell everyone of His salvation!   And, yes, soon - very soon - you will see Him.

- Isaiah 43:10

Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

- 1 Timothy 3:16

And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one.

- Zechariah 14:9

the Lord's day

We honored fathers.  Thank you to the many dads who do well in rearing their children to know and follow the Lord.

The message, taken from 1st John 5:14-15 about praying in God's will looked at praying for the church.  We considered God's will for the church based on the pictures of the body, the temple, and the church as the bride of Christ.

Sunday evening several attended the concert by Daryl Mosley hearing much of his story through song.  It was a treat!   You may still enjoy the concert on the app or through our website HERE.

•Who told you that you were naked?  - Genesis 3:11

Satan asks the first question recorded in Scripture.  But then God asks the next questions.  Four of them in Genesis 3.  This second question was to Adam.   Imagine a world so perfect where you never had a reason to blush?  Adam and Eve, in their glory were naked and felt no shame.  The implication of the question is that it did not even occur to them that they were naked.   But, once they sinned, they could not look upon their own nakedness without blushing.

First, “Who told you that you were naked?” seems to be a rhetorical question.  Designed to get Adam thinking.  No one told him… somehow, he figured it out… something had changed.  This is connected to the “knowledge of good and evil.”  There is suddenly an evil knowledge that Adam now knows (just like God said would happen).

This question also looks past the results of the sin.  The results are the nakedness (and death, the curse, etc).  But we all know that often remorse is only for getting caught.  People feel remorse for the results of their action, their sin.  “Who told you that you were naked?” takes Adam from being naked (results) back to the sin, back to the cause.  A question we must always consider in our circumstances is “Am I harboring sin that might have led to this?”

“If discouragement becomes a lifestyle of complaint, it can throw us into a state of moral paralysis.  When that happens, we are stuck not only with our suffering but also with finding little reason in the middle of it to do the good things that God calls all his children to do.”

- Paul David Tripp
