A Point from pastor

The 2024 Creation Days event is in the rear-view mirror now.  I hope you had a chance to take in some or all of it.  Thank you Kyle & Aimee, Pastor Tim, and Molly G for your work over the last few months and these last few days in pulling off this event.   I'd like to nominate you to be in charge of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. . .  Dinosaurs walking through the opening ceremony anyone?

Matt Miles was fantastic as our speaker.  His messages all spoke to the authority of Scripture and the necessity of the gospel.   We were blessed to have him.  Also, a big thanks to the many of you that labored during the event to make it a successful event.  Some of you may not even have been aware of the entire crew wrangling young children . . .  they did great!  Thank you Jettie for coordinating the Kids Camp!

Remember, we don't celebrate creation . . .   we allow creation to open our eyes more to celebrate the Creator.  This event was really two-fold in my humble opinion:  1) That we would be better equipped to speak on God's Word as an absolute trusted authority, sharing the gospel with everyone.   2)  That we would be given encouragement and verification from extra-biblical sources that confirm the Bible's authority.    May we each be encouraged now to continue sharing the gospel with those we connect to these coming days.  For their salvation and for God's glory!

the Lord's day

Matt Miles shared in Sunday school about that gunpowder smudge on the wall that haunted him growing up.   He compared the grace his parents showed him to God's grace to mankind.  But, not the grace we see in the New Testament. . .   God generously gave grace to that first couple in the garden.  As Matt titled the talk... the "Genesis of Grace" - God is full of grace!!!

During the service we installed Jaime Farias as an evangelist.  He'll be primarily working with the hispanic population in South Omaha.  He'd also welcome any (or many) of us to join him as he trains us and takes us along at times.   We also baptized Joy S. at the close of the service after hearing her testimony of trusting in faith what Jesus has done to save her.

The message returned us to 1st John 5:14-15 as we discussed praying for healing.  God's will in our sickness (and healing) includes the idea that we are shown His sovereignty.  He reserves the right to heal or not to heal.   We also see God revealing His character through our sickness (and healing if granted).  Considering the compassion of Christ...  or grace... or mercy... or long-suffering.  Another aspect of God's will is our growth.  Paul speaking of the thorn in the flesh he dealt with (2 Cor. 12) grew through that ailment.  He felt more acutely how sufficient God's grace was, he learned to boast of Christ, and he learned to be content through any weakness.  We also see God's will in sickness is as a benefit to the church and others.  We should be served by others when ill.   We ended the message considering ideas on how we might pray based on God's will.

Be the Church

God's Plan

Each of us start in “God’s Plan” through salvation.  Through new birth, instead of being lost in our sins (facing hell), we repent and believe in Jesus who took our place on the cross.  We then enter this Christian life where we, first, begin to grow spiritually.  God’s will is our sanctification (1 Thess. 4:3-4).  Let us also be ones who encourage others to grow and develop – all to bring glory to God.  We also enter into serving the lord.  We are not saved by our own works but we are saved to work (Eph. 2:8-10).  How has the Spirit gifted you?  Using that is a means you bring God glory.   During our Christian life, we also will endure sacrifice and suffering (note: 1 Peter 1:7).  We take up the cross of Christ Jesus (Luke 14:26-27) and, as we patiently suffer, God is again glorified.   Finally, God’s plan is that we would bear much fruit (John 15:8).   Obviously, our character is a fruit as we grow in patience, peace, love, etc.  We also bear fruit through serving those around us.  And, let us not neglect the fruit in the fields around us of those who need to hear of the gospel.  God is glorified through our bearing fruit.   God’s plan is for each of us as a part of His body.  Be the church!

“One of the great ironies of modern liberalism is its rejection of the "Law of God" in favor of the "Law of Love."  The irony, of course, is that loving God and loving people is in fact the summary of the whole law (Matt. 22:37-39).”
