STANDING STONE BIBLE

WEEKLY

August 21, 2023

A Point from pastor

Some of you were "early adopters" on the SSB App but then probably quickly realized that it was not exactly completed.  You might check it out again as it is live and there is quite a bit of content now that you might appreciate.   You can download the app on your smart phone here.  Still more is to be added including messaging, a youth hub, and the ability to order your cup of coffee before you even pull into the church parking lot.

Okay, that last one was a joke.

The Ashland Baptist Church idea is a big deal.  It will be a major relief and blessing to them.  It will also mean some significant changes for SSB... at least temporarily.  Sunday morning, 8/27, we will have a business meeting to discuss this further.  You will have an opportunity to ask questions.  The elders will do their best to answer.  Hint: they do not have all of the answers.

Only God has all of the answers.

To that end, any that are interested might consider coming to Prayer Force on Wednesday evening.  This is our scheduled time of corporate prayer and, as always, gives you a chance to join with the body of SSB in praying and seeking God's wisdom.  We will be praying for the needs of our SSB family, our church, and for God's will with regards to ABC.

Finally, you've heard that Danna Scott passed away.  She has battled cancer for a few years now and her weary body finally succumbed.  But Jesus won the day!   Her spirit is with Him right now.   If you did not know Danna, you missed a sweet gal that always had a smile and always lifted your spirits.  She was a gem and we will miss her.  Her mother, Mary, has been her caregiver for several years and needs our continued prayer.  The funeral will be this Saturday at 11am with a luncheon following.  We "do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him" (1 Thess 4:13-14).

- 1 Peter 2:15

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

- Romans 12:2

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.

- Proverbs 16:9

the Lord's day

We sang of standing with arms high and heart abandoned in awe of the one who gave it all.  May we not just stand in church on Sunday morning but stand in awe of Jesus in our homes, jobs, and the public square.  Stand for Jesus!  He paid all and we owe Him all!

Pastor Ken's message took us through several points from January until now.  We must be ready... we are at war and our culture is dripping with death.  These days we must beware of false teachers in the church.  1 Tim. 4:1-3 says that "in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons..."  We, therefore "stand" for Christ and, as obedient children, obey His will for our lives.  Regardless of how uncomfortable that may make us at times.

How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?   -  Hebrews 2:3

The world thinks of true Christianity as being trapped under God’s rules.  “How shall we escape” implies that we are already in prison.   The truth is the world is trapped in prison.  Each one is condemned by their sins.  “Neglect” implies that you have taken something under your care (e.g. neglecting your child).  This is written to believers!  “Salvation” is all around us.  A fireman might save someone from a fire.  A doctor might save a life.  You might save someone from a major mistake.  But this verse speaks of “so great a salvation” – Nothing compares with what Jesus did.  A great savior saved us from great sin so we would avoid great misery and obtain great righteousness thus able to live forever with great joy in a great eternity.  How great a salvation!!!

“None of us gets our dream in the way that we dreamt it, because none of us is writing our own story.  God, in his love, writes a better story than we could ever write ourselves.”

- Paul David Tripp
