A Point from pastor

Tomorrow begins our OA:sis season once again.   Join us at 6pm for a shared meal - no need to cook!   Afterwards, there are opportunities for all ages to learn, share, and grow.  OA:sis is a "One Another" opportunity.  As much as you will benefit through attending, this night is much about others benefiting by your being there.  Your presence makes a difference.   Join us!

the Lord's day

We took a moment to thank Jettie for her 25-years of serving Standing Stone Bible Church officially.  She began in the office on September 1, 1999.  Thank you Jettie for the many lives you have blessed in many ways these last 25 years!

We shared in communion together after singing praises to our Savior.  Communion took us to John, chapter 6 and Jesus discussing the "Bread of Life."   About one year prior to the night He would institute the Lord's Supper, He would exclaim, "I Am the Bread of Life."   As our bread, He is eminent - claiming "I am" is a way of saying that He is God.   As the bread of life, He is essential.  Just as we need bread to live physically, we need Christ as our spiritual bread.   This bread also leads to eternal life.  Our "daily bread" consumed gives us temporary life but as we "feed on" Jesus we are granted eternal life.  There is also a response by us to this Bread of Life as we must enter.  Jesus said, "whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst."  We must enter and believe in Jesus.  Finally, Jesus, as our bread of life, is enough.  He makes us righteous.   We also need not look to other wells of water - He is the fountain of living water!

This Month in Christian History

Bentley DeForest Ackley was born twice in September and died in September.  Born on September 27, 1872, he learned the melodeon, piano, coronet, clarinet and piccolo as a boy. His family moved to New York when he was 16 where Bentley played organ for several churches.  He had a real problem, though – he was a lost sinner.   In that sin, he drank heavily.  It would be on September 3, 1906 that he finally was saved – born again.   The next year, Bentley joined Billy Sunday’s ministry as an organist and secretary.  Eventually, he would have a catalogue of over 3,000 hymn tunes that he wrote.  He died on September 3, 1958.

“When the Bible says "look" on the interests of others, we should not just be concerned about fulfilling a one-time "selfless act." We should constantly "be on the lookout for," or "continually have an eye on," or "constantly be aware of" the interests of others.  Selflessness, therefore, has a quota that can never be fulfilled!
