A Point from pastor

I've been hearing a lot of patriotic songs lately.  Could just be that For the Master rehearses at SSB and they are doing some patriotic concerts (Veteran's Day is 11/11).   Yep, that's probably it!  I am blessed to get a sneak preview (perhaps better to say a "sneak prehear").

For the Master will be ministering at Standing Stone Bible on Sunday Evening, November 9th.  Make a note so you come.  You might also want to invite friends, family, maybe neighbors.  Who is that veteran you know that you've never talked to about Jesus?   We can't make this much easier for you to share the gospel than to invite those vets to a patriotic concert with our own quartet.  And they'll hear the gospel.   Sweet!

------------
Still wondering who might be interested:  Would you and your family host our missionary couple, Tom and Robin, for dinner early Friday evening or possibly at some time during the day on Saturday (we have Sunday afternoon covered).  There may also be some time if you would want to hang out with them in the morning on Saturday.   I had a thought of possibly a family that might want to take them to the zoo for a few hours.   Depending on how the event Saturday is placed with the Husker schedule (we should know soon), you might take some hangout time Saturday during the day, a lunch Saturday, or dinner Friday night (back at the church by 6:30pm).   Note:  when Tom and I visited about possibly renting a vehicle while they were here, his response was "we don't need one ... if we can hang out with more people when we aren't speaking, we love that opportunity."

THIS WEEK

Here are the highlights of classes and events THIS week

Men's Breakfast - This Saturday (men) . . . .  join us at SSB for a men's breakfast at 7:30am.  This will be followed by a time of encouragement and help.   For those interested, we also have a men's Bible study before this at 6:30am.

Foundations of the Faith - The 12-week study of the "elementary" doctrines that we should all firmly grasp continues this Saturday (9 to 10:30am).  This week is about "laying on of hands" (part 1).   What is that all about?  "Elementary doctrine" according to Hebrews 6 . . .  but do we get it?  Join us.

Life Groups - We have several life groups that meet - most twice a month.   This is where we, the SSB church gather in smaller units to pray, study God's Word and live life together.   If you are not in a Life Group, you need to be.   We can help you find the best one to plug into.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead...

- 1 Peter 1:3

In hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began

- Titus 1:2

Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

-  Romans 5:2

the Lord's day

We spoke much of sharing the gospel.  Pastor Tim opened us with a call to minister to this lost world.  We watched a video about sharing the gospel as missionaries (some are called to "go).  Ron Miller then shared about our call to "go" locally.  We evangelize our neighbors, loved ones, those in public.  Ron suggested we hand out tracts highlighting the history of Thanksgiving while also sharing the thing we can be most thankful for (faith in Jesus!).  We have more tracts available if you need some.

Drawing from Jude’s urgent warning about “the last time,” the message challenged us to live with gospel urgency and discernment. We contrasted true faith and false faith using the illustration of two hands—one representing those who love Christ, Scripture, holiness, God’s people, and His return; the other representing those who love self, lies, sin, division, and the world. Believers are reminded that time is short and that we must “snatch others from the fire,” boldly sharing the gospel in everyday encounters. Jude’s words call the church not only to contend for the faith but also to examine whether they truly possess it. We finished with an appeal to those outside of true faith to respond to God’s loving call, step into His keeping grace, and be transformed by His salvation.

Be the Church

Surrendering the Direction of My Life

Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23).  This is embracing the cross.  Notice who is and who isn't in the driver’s seat?  You are not driving; Jesus is in the driver’s seat!   He leads; we follow.  Would you willingly take your car key and give it to Jesus?  More importantly, have you given him the keys to your life?   Are you embracing the cross?  Surrender the direction of your life to Christ.   Be the church.

“The believer must devote himself to running the Christian race... Concentration is the secret of power.  If a river is allowed to overflow its banks, the area around it becomes a swamp.  But if that river is dammed and controlled, it becomes a source of power.  It is wholly a matter of values and priorities, living for that which matters most.”
