STANDING STONE BIBLE

WEEKLY

A Point from pastor

VBS is this week.   Vacation Bible School.  Yay!

We'll have a couple of dozen kids running around, singing songs, playing games and learning about the B.I.B.L.E.   Join us Thursday night at 6:33 for a program - you get to hear from the kids.  Fun!

We are thankful to be blessed to have VBS.  Thankful for God's Word and Jesus.  Thankful to the helpers.  Thanks to those running the scenes (thank the helpers you may have sent).  Thanks to SSB and her leadership and financial supporters.   Thanks to all who pray for the boys and girls this week.  Thanks for the parents who see the importance of their children hearing of Jesus.  Thanks to Jettie and Rebekah putting together VBS materials.   Thanks to God - again - as He is due ALL credit!!!

In the midst of VBS, we are sadly reminded of tragedy.  The floods in Texas remind us that each person is always seconds away from a flood of trouble and disaster.   Over 80 dead - a few dozen of those are children.  Some of these were campers at a Christian girl's camp.  Tragic.  No parent was expecting this from camp.   A few of us are mindful of the camp in Kansas two weeks ago as well:  Cameron B, Peyton H, and Elijah W counseled at Timber Lakes where a boy got into some deep water, was unable to swim, and drowned.  Tragic.   VBS this week causes me a pause to lament for those folks in Texas and the family of that boy in Kansas.

I don't know who among those that might have believed in Jesus as Savior.  But I do know that time is precious and the call is urgent.   Paul urged Timothy to be ready to preach the Word in season and out of season.   We are to be ready (i.e. "on guard" or "standing") all of the time.  "In season and out of season" isn't speaking about the time of year as much as whether it is convenient, the circumstances are just right, or even if it is received well.  We are ready to preach the Word.   Always.  Today is the best day.

Pray for VBS this week.   Pray for the families suffering loss from those tragedies.  May God's grace shine brightly and His people minister in that darkness!

Church Notes...

The Funeral for George McFarling will be Saturday morning at SSB, 10:30am.   It will be followed by a luncheon.   An internment will be at the Omaha National Cemetery at a later date (possibly for family only).

The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will

- Ephesians 1:11

the Lord's day

We celebrated freedom!   Yes, we have great freedom and are thankful for our country and this great liberty afforded us in the US of A.  We noted the 249th anniversary of the Declaration signing last week.  Yet, we celebrate the great freedom we have in Christ - For freedom Christ has set us free.

We joined in Communion reflecting on Luke 15 again.  We considered our call to go out and search, search inside, and watch while waiting.  So, too our Jesus searches us everywhere we are lost.  He went out, leaving glory in heaven and taking on flesh.   He searches inside, into the corners of our hearts.  And, He watches and waits for us to return to Him.

This Month in Christian History

July of 1934
Yin Renxian was born in Hunan, China, in 1887, to a family of high status. He studied classical Confucian teachings and English at home. After his first wife died following the birth of their fourth child, Yin left his children with relatives and pursued studies in economics in the U.S., earning degrees from Western Reserve University and Harvard. He later worked at the First National Bank of Boston before returning to China in 1919 to help develop the national textile industry.

Initially skeptical of Christianity, Yin's views changed through the influence of his Christian cousin and the example of missionaries. He married Faith Suyun Ding in 1924, the daughter of Christian leader Ding Limei.

As the four children by Yin’s previous marriage were beginning to grow up and attend high school and college, another son, David, was born to them. One afternoon, his parents found him drowned in the deep ditch that surrounded the house. After consolation from a Christian doctor, Yin went to his room upstairs and knelt down to pray, asking for God’s saving grace.  On the very same day, Suyan was consoled by another friend, who used a touching illustration of a shepherd who cares for little lambs. They both began to embrace Christ personally.

They began studying the Bible together and hosting Bible study meetings.  In July of 1934, two of Yin Renxian’s adult children, recently converted to Christianity through his witness, were blown up by a bomb while traveling on a train. At their funeral, Yin spoke to the assembled Chinese about the power of Christ to save from sin. He and his wife Suyun, after years of tepid Christianity, had devoted themselves wholeheartedly to Christ with the result that a house church has formed around them. Yin eventually became a Christian educator.

He continued to held influential government positions, including Director of the Tax Bureau in Henan and Commissioner of Finance in Hunan. Despite the challenges of war and corruption, he maintained integrity, refusing to compromise his values. His leadership during the 1938 Changsha fire relief effort led to the governor’s conversion to Christianity.

In 1943, Yin founded Holy Light School in Chongqing, a Christian school for refugee children, which became a model institution for Christian education. After the Communist takeover, the school was forced to close. Yin spent his later years in Suzhou, focusing on ministry and writing about his spiritual journey. He died in 1964 at the age of 78. Yin’s legacy includes his leadership, faithfulness in adversity, and influence on China’s Christian community.

“Marriage is not like a tree that naturally grows after it's been planted; we must have the mind-set of architects and builders, planning and constructing our marriages stone by stone, brick by brick...  When couples say "I do" on their wedding days, I wish they'd add "and I will, every day of our lives."   The catchphrase for an intimate marriage really could be "I do and I will".”
