A Point from pastor

Wednesday Nights.  From the OAsis Handbook:

OA:sis Roots:  Exodus 15:27,  Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve wells of water and seventy palm trees; so they camped there by the waters.

The journey began with Passover - like our communion on Sunday.    Monday brought the forces of the Pharaoh upon them, but God provided a way out.   Tuesday was marked by bitter water.

   Wednesday was the OA:sis at Elim.

Thursday was no food.    Friday was no water.  Saturday was war with Amalek.  Sunday was the encounter with God at Sinai.

Does this not sound like a week between Sundays?  There are open attacks (Pharaoh) and rear attacks when already down (Amalek).  There are things that bring bitterness.  Then there are failings and lack of even the basics of life (no food and no water).

But there in the middle of the trip is Elim, the OA:sis with 12 springs of life giving water and 70 date palm trees for shade and food.   They camped there.  The whole family stopped and took in the moment.

Thus, we offer OA:sis...

Foundations of the Faith

This 12-week study begins Saturday, September 6th.   Foundations of the Faith is a study of the "elementary" doctrines that we should know and upon which we should begin.   Mark your calendar for Saturdays from 9 to 10:30am.

Hebrews 5:12-14, For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

6:1 Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3And this we will do if God permits

Foundations of the Faith - A 12-week study of the "elementary" doctrines that we should know and upon which we should begin.  This begins Saturday mornings, September 6th.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

- Proverbs 3:5-6

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

- Hebrews 11:6

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

-  Romans 10:17

the Lord's day

We heard an update from Jaime about his evangelism efforts locally.  He's been quite busy at the Sarpy County Jail, street evangelism, and is beginning some ESL classes at Turtle Doves in Gretna.  Be in prayer for Dunia and Iris (the mothers of the two Honduran families he is ministering to).

We held the music until the end of the service (hopefully that was a welcome change).  Interesting how we sang "Wonderful the Matchless Grace of Jesus" after we heard a message much about God's grace.   God so often weaves the music and message together.   Go God!!!

The message from Jude 4 unpacked the danger of false believers who creep into the church unnoticed, perverting God’s grace into a license for sin and denying Christ by their actions. Jude warns that while God blesses His people with mercy, peace, and love, these qualities are disrupted if the church tolerates ungodliness.

True biblical grace is not permissive but transformative. Drawing from Romans 6 and Titus 2, we heard that grace rescues us from sin, trains us in holiness, anchors our hope in Christ’s return, and flows from Christ’s redeeming work at the cross. Grace is the greatest treasure God has given, worth guarding and living out. It empowers obedience, not rebellion, and it orients us toward holiness and eternity rather than indulgence and selfish ambition.

Who is Worthy?

Malachi was a prophet raised up by God in the post-exilic period calling the people back to covenant faithfulness after returning from Babylonian captivity.  Malachi means “my messenger” and, though little is known about his personal life, his message from God exposed Israel’s spiritual apathy, corrupt worship, and broken relationships. He challenged priests and people alike to honor God with sincerity, justice, and reverence, pointing forward to the coming of the Lord and the promised messenger who would prepare His way. Through Malachi’s bold and faithful proclamation, God revealed both His righteous judgment and enduring love, preserving hope for a purified people and a glorious future. Malachi’s life glorifies God as a vessel through whom divine truth and promise were declared in a dark and complacent time.  Through Malachi we see that God alone is worthy of all worship!

“I rest my soul on Jesus,
  This weary soul of mine;
His right hand me embraces,
  I on His breast recline.
I love the name of Jesus,
  Immanuel, Christ, the Lord;
Like fragrance on the breezes
  His name abroad is poured.”
