We have certainty and assurance in Christ. John contrasts false claims of “hidden knowledge” with the eyewitness truth of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, reminding us that we truly know we belong to God, are protected from the evil one, and have been given understanding through Jesus, the Son of God. Ultimately, we are called to rest in the reality of Jesus as the true God and eternal life, not merely in what others claim to know.
