STANDING STONE BIBLE

WEEKLY

April 20, 2026

  • Matt Sutton shared about Biblical Counseling yesterday, giving a word-picture of a car (as a picture of us) with an engine... that runs terribly.  There is a problem deep inside.  Turns out it was contaminated from oil used from other engines (secular counseling).  The mechanic says to "junk it" (worldly solutions that just want you to be happy).   God, though, doesn't want to throw away that broken engine  - you and I are of eternal value.  God wants to restore us, clean us, redeem us, and transform what is damaged.   The gospel applied in our life is what begins and leads that restoration process.  Biblical counseling represents applying this restoration (the gospel) into a life damaged by the dirt and grime of sin.   As Matt shared:

Over time, with repeated oil changes (ongoing repentance), consistent fueling (walking in the Spirit), and faithful driving (obedience), the engine begins to change and become clean from the inside and power is restored. The grime is gradually removed, and what happens internally begins to show externally. This is the process of sanctification: “Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” — 2 Corinthians 4:16. And God is faithful to complete this work: “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” — Philippians 1:6.
    • Standing Stone Bible offers counsel to those in need of it.  The Bible is sufficient and Jesus is still the Way, and the Truth, and the Life for each of us.   Reach out if we can help.

  • Teen Life Truths (TLT) is a 10-week study of basic life principles for those entering 6th grade (middle school)...  Thus, 6th grade and older may attend (and we have had many guys and gals go through this a few times).   This will begin on Wednesday, May 13th from 6:30 to 8:10pm (coincides with the LIGHThouse). Talk to Pastor Tim for more information.

  •  OA:sis is winding down - The final Wednesday evening meal for this season will be Wednesday, May 6th - three more weeks!  Join us.   The adult Bible Study and kidz clubs will pause for the summer.    Prayer Force and the youth LIGHThouse (6-12th grade) will continue to meet during the summer months (at 7pm).  Note TLT will start earlier each night.

  • Sunday's message had us revisiting the book of Haggai, where we were have seen this challenge to “consider our ways” and evaluate whether we are investing in temporary pursuits or eternal priorities. Like the people who delayed rebuilding the temple, many today do not reject God outright but postpone obedience, which is really a dangerous form of disobedience. We looked at Abraham’s tents and altars, along with Jesus’ teaching in Gospel of Matthew 6, to highlight how anxiety reveals a heart clinging too tightly to temporary things. The life and teaching of Jesus further underscore the urgency of immediate obedience—He never delayed the Father’s will but moved decisively, even to the cross. We were reminded that we are always building something, and the real question is whether what we are building will last. Because Christ has already secured our acceptance, we are now called to build for God with urgency, asking: what are we building right now, and will it remain when everything else fades?

  • Baptisms!   This coming Sunday we have a few baptisms during our normal worship service.  Praise the Lord!
