STANDING STONE BIBLE

WEEKLY

June 15, 2026

  • Yesterday we mentioned Flag Day, observed each year on June 14. The day commemorates 1777, when the Second Continental Congress passed the first flag resolution, calling for a flag with thirteen alternating red and white stripes and thirteen white stars on a blue field. Betsy Ross's famous flag with its circle of stars remains the most recognizable version. We honor our flag because it represents our history, our place in the world, and our national heritage.

Speaking of flags, Psalm 20:5 says, "May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the LORD fulfill all your petitions!" (ESV).

As important as our nation's flag is, the banners we raise in honor of God are far more significant. We gladly raise the white flag of surrender to Him, yielding our lives to His will. Then we raise the banner of salvation, proclaiming Christ as our Savior and the One to whom we owe our highest allegiance.

  • In Sunday's Message, we heard how the church becomes healthy only when it understands that everything begins with Christ. In Ephesians 1, Paul anchors our identity not in what we do but in who we are: chosen in Christ, redeemed through Christ, and sealed by the Spirit of Christ. Every spiritual blessing, every hope, every promise, and every source of power flows from being "in Him." Before we can talk about ministry, service, relationships, or mission, we must first understand our identity as God's people. A thriving church is a people who know who they are because they know whose they are.

  • Safety Training - For all who regularly work with children and teens & ushers/VBS/security team helpers, you will need to be "certified" or "recertified" for the coming year by July 1st.   There is a packet of information available to review and you just need to complete the "test"....  Note: this has changed from previous years where we had a required meeting.

  • A Note on Life - We generally do not pass around political petitions at church.  You will not be asked to buy cookies or goods for causes.   We want Sunday morning to be a space free from that.  Yet, we must discuss politics and there are critical  "life and death" issues we should still discuss.   Abortion is still taking lives.  Ironically the "League of Women Voters" website says this:  “Abortion saves lives, period,” Hennings added. “It’s time for Nebraskans to have this fundamental right enshrined in our constitution. Decisions about our bodies should be decided by us, not legislators. Let’s put it to a vote.”

There is a petition that I (Pastor Ken W) would encourage you to sign that is seeking to amend Nebraska law so that every human life, including the unborn, receives equal protection under the law.  It must be signed soon to meet the deadline to include it on the November ballot.   You can do so at https://chooselifenow.net/  - Just click on the link to "sign the petition."
